Providence saw year-over-year increases in burnout for four years straight, prior to COVID-19, which then exacerbated the issue.
In November 2020, based on survey data, the IS & RESO Caregiver Experience Committee began researching burnout. That research helped inform a new Leading Through Burnout resource site to help Providence identify and mitigate burnout and stress.
With support from HR, our IS & RESO Caregiver Experience Committee have made strides and are conducting focus groups, which aim to identify why burnout is happening at a systemic level, vs. merely who it’s happening to, as traditional efforts have, when trying to help caregivers with self-care and individual support.
Burnout focus group objectives
- Gather data
- Identify trends (team and organization level)
- Provide recommendations to executive team for improvements they can drive to reduce burnout
Now that the drivers of organizational burnout have been identified at the system level, we are now seeking to learn how these drivers are manifesting at the team and organizational level.
