IS Q4 Town Hall Follow-Up

The IS executive team has spent quite a bit of time since Thursday’s Q4 town hall addressing the questions anonymously submitted via PollEverywhere. Luckily, we had time to address more of them than at past town halls, but still wanted to share their thoughts to each question and comment shared. Thank you for such great engagement! The on-demand video recording of the webcast, as well as the presentation materials, are now also available.

Microsoft Intune Supports Modern Workplace Application Protection – Dec. 11 Rollout to IS

As Rick Stover also shared at our December 5 IS town hall, part of our Modern Workplace initiative involves providing PSJH applications and communications with data protection and security.

Microsoft Intune is the endpoint management solution within Modern Workplace that ensures applications accessed by non-managed (personal) devices are secured with application protection policies (APP). APP safeguards data in our Office 365 mobile applications by requiring users to input a six-digit PIN (can later be your thumb or face biometric factor supported by your phone or device) and then limiting transfer of PSJH app data to that personal device.

Preparing PSJH for Wider Deployment of Windows 10

In last month’s IS Update, we shared how we are accelerating the upgrades from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Last week, we began communicating this broadly to caregivers across PSJH. We shared the expectation that all desktop and laptop PCs currently running Windows 7 will be upgraded over the next six to nine months and that older hardware may be replaced.

IS Tests Azure-Enabled Remote Access Multifactor Authentication for PSJH

At our Dec. 5 IS town hall, Rick Stover, CTO and SVP of TEO, shared how single sign-on with multifactor authentication (MFA) is yet another facet of remote access and security that Azure will support for PSJH. He also mentioned how we’ll be testing tools like MFA via Azure SSO within IS to ensure they function smoothly before releasing them to other PSJH Shared Services groups and then to the wider enterprise – the practice known as “dog fooding.”

MFA is an authentication method in which a user is granted access only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence (factors) to an authentication mechanism. A good example of multi-factor authentication is logging into an online bank account. Only the correct combination of UserID & PIN/password and verification of a security element allows access. Now that we have completed the Okta to Azure transition and decommissioning of Okta on December 1, the next step is to enable Azure MFA.

Windows 10 Upgrades Accelerate

Microsoft will no longer offer support for Windows 7 as of January 2020. With this transition to Windows 10, we will stay in compliance with security updates, and allow for more efficient software deployment and support.

With this in mind, November marks the kick-off of our accelerated migration from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Caregivers can expect to be notified that their workstations will be upgraded in one of three ways.

Take Action: Get Your Flu Shot and Share the Record with Caregiver Health Services

IS leads Providence St. Joseph Health in many ways – in our adoption of technology, our embrace of Health 2.0, and in Mission service! One area, unfortunately, where we’re lagging behind the rest of the enterprise is in our participation with the flu vaccination program, which had a 2019 goal of 90% vaccination across PSJH.

Receiving a flu vaccination each year is one of the best ways to protect our fellow caregivers, our patients, and our families and support our vision of Health for a Better World through example.

At the end of October, when we looked at the data with HR, IS had one of the lowest compliance rates across large department of PSJH, standing at less than 50%.

> Click into the article headline or graphic for ideas on where to get your flu shot, how to log the record with PJSH Caregiver Health Services, how it can get you Choose Well points. You can also hear Amy Compton-Phillips, M.D., chief clinical officer, share a compelling case on why the flu shot is so important.

Additional Azure Training Rolls Out

As IS helps Providence St. Joseph Health transition to Microsoft Azure and the cloud, comes the opportunity and need for PSJH caregivers to expand their knowledge and get certified on Azure.

IS is currently working with Microsoft to develop a robust Azure training schedule. An initial Azure Fundamentals class was held in Renton on October 28, and another is scheduled on November 11 in Orangewood and filled up quickly. These two classes were promoted primarily to TEO caregivers who will attend in-person or virtually. Healthcare Intelligence (HI) also has four Fundamentals trainings scheduled in November and December in various locations. We want IS caregivers interested to know that more opportunities for Azure training are coming up, so stay tuned.

Service Distilled from the Simple

For this month’s area-aligned Mission Director-contributed profile of IS caregivers in service, we look at a recent Orange County day of service. Sr. program manager Jenny Cheng, one of our Orangewood-based IS caregivers, helped lead the team of community volunteers along with the lead Sister.

From crocheting squares of quilts for the homeless (a first for Jenny), to helping write letters advocating for legislation to help the most poor and vulnerable, to prepping local food pantry supplies for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday… Get inspired by the many ways IS caregivers are helping knit together the tapestry of community.
