In honor of our Foundress, Blessed Émilie Gamelin, we hope you’ll gather with fellow caregivers to celebrate her legacy and our Mission.
To celebrate the legacy of our foundress Mother Emilie Gamelin and kick off activities across our ministries as part of our Table of the King tradition, IS & RESO will receive a special virtual blessing and reflection from Sister Barbara Schamber, Provincial Leader, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 8:00 a.m. – 8:20 a.m. PT, click here to join.
Even as a young girl, Blessed Émilie Gamelin, the Foundress of the Sisters of Providence, was deeply committed to serving the poor within her community. She converted her own family kitchen into a soup kitchen. Each evening, neighbors in need of food would line up seeking assistance. They found not only food but friendship, and tables set with the finest linens and silverware. She called her ministry, “The Table of the King.” Below are options to be part of the celebrations.
- Leaders: Here are a few resources, including tips and tricks, for hosting a lunch-time Teams gathering (bring your own bread and soup).
- Caregivers: See the opportunities below and on this flyer.
- Check out this two-minute video from last year with Sister Susanne Hartung introducing Blessed Emilie Gamelin’s story in serving the poor; a direct correlation to our Mission as Providence today.
- You can also share a reflection from one of our collection of prayer cards.
