John Juarez, security officer – St Joseph Health System – Irvine, California

I would just like to take a moment recognize John’s dedication to Providence.

Over the time of John being on our team supporting the Irvine office, he has always been providing our caregivers and leaders with some of the most high-quality security services possible.

More recently, John has been assisting with special events such as board meetings, building move outs, and security system support.  In some cases, these events involve our most senior leaders in the organization, and I am so grateful that we have someone as reliable as John to represent our team with professionalism.

I can always count on John to be punctual, attentive, communicative, and professional.

John – Thank you for your continued hard work, and we are so happy to you continue to be a part of this team! ~ Forrest Marrero – manager physical security

Brayan Paredes, security officer – Providence Real Estate Strategy & Operations – Seattle, Washington

Brayan is a new security officer with the Renton Security team, serving both PacMed and the Renton corporate campus.

There was an opportunity for Providence to partner with a local catholic high school for a work study program.  Our team was selected to participate in this program. In this program, we would have the opportunity to show high school students the importance of security in healthcare and develop important skills such as customer service and organization.

Even though Brayan is new, he has already stepped up to the plate to support the team with various projects, incidents, and going above and beyond to make our team look good.

When I asked Brayan about leading part of this program, he was very enthusiastic and willing to take on this task.

Today, Brayan attended the first set of trainings for the work study program, and I have attached some pictures from the event.

Brayan is not only representing the organization with professionalism, taking on extra tasks/projects that need to get done, but doing this all while having a great attitude.

Thank you, Brayan, for this work, and we are so happy to have you on this team! ~ Forrest Marrero – manager physical security

Joyce Lorch, food services manager – Providence Kodiak Alaska Medical Center – Kodiak, Alaska

Joyce is the Manager of Food Services for the hospital and the elder house in Kodiak Alaska. There have been a lot of changes to the menu system and the process in which we serve caregivers and patients in the hospital and for the elder house. Joyce manages a commercial kitchen in the hospital, a commercial kitchen and 2 kitchenettes at the elder house that get utilized infrequently, mostly for preparing snacks and drinks for residents.

Recently, a request was made by the Elder House Administrator, Helena Jagielski, to start utilizing the kitchenettes for preparing residents food instead of solely in the commercial kitchen. The Administrator wanted to have the residents see their food being prepared, making it more like a home atmosphere. One of the big challenges with that was that the kitchenettes did not hold an ADEC Food Establishment permit to operate and prepare meals.

Without any complaints Joyce took the challenge to get the kitchenettes permitted and ran with it. There were a lot of hoops Joyce had to jump through prior to submitting the application to the State.  The kitchenettes had to be inspected by the local building inspector to make sure they had all of the proper equipment, and the kitchenettes were up to all building codes. Joyce assembled a small team to go through and make sure the equipment was up to commercial standards and that it was functioning properly. Afterwards Joyce called in the local building inspector to perform an inspection and was able to get him to sign off on the kitchenettes.

Next, Joyce had to submit an application to the state for the ADEC permitting. Joyce contacted the inspector from the state to ask questions regarding the permit. The inspector stated she was coming to Kodiak for some other inspections and wanted to know if Joyce would like her to informally go through the kitchenettes to see if anything needed done prior to submitting the permit. Joyce gladly accepted the invitation. When the inspector came to town, Joyce asked if I would come up with one of my facilities staff and walk through with the inspector in case we needed to make any changes to the kitchenettes.

The inspector was overjoyed to see that all of Joyces compliance paperwork was up to date and that the kitchenettes were in great condition. After walking through both kitchenettes, the inspector stated it was the best kitchenettes she has seen in a long time and that she would not need to return for a final inspection because they would pass inspection with flying colors. She just asked Joyce to submit the application and if the building inspector was good with everything, then she would sign off on the permits.

Joyce did a lot of leg work to make sure the kitchenettes would receive their permitting. She put in a lot of hours making sure everything was in place, while still making sure her staff of 13 direct reports had everything in place to perform their duties on a daily basis. Joyce is an extremely hard-working manager that loves her staff. Joyce has a great relationship with her employees and when they find ways to improve their processes, she listens to them and helps make the changes they have identified. Joyce constantly goes above and beyond for the hospital and elder house, so much, sometimes I have to remind her to make sure she takes time for herself to have a good work life balance.

Joyce has several children and has fostered several children as well. She is involved heavily with the community, she has a strong belief in God and when things become challenging, she always smiles and says God willing, he will get me through it. I am blessed to have such a wonderful human being that is so giving of herself working on my team here at Providence in Kodiak. She is truly focused on the Mission of Providence. ~ Victor Weaver – senior manager facilities
