Nathan Paul, senior security officer – Providence St. Patrick Hospital – Missoula, Montana

Cole Gengo, security officer – Providence St. Patrick Hospital – Missoula, Montana

Yesterday in the PC parking lot Nathan and Cole had to provide life saving measures to a passenger in a vehicle who was suffering from a cardiac event. A vehicle pulled off I-90 and drove into the PC mistaking it for the hospital. An occupant of the vehicle ran into the surgery center for help.  Our team noticed the concerned citizen and responded immediately. They noticed the other occupant in distress. They carefully pulled the occupant from the vehicle onto the shaded pavement and began their work. I cannot express how proud I am of their quick action and ability to stay calm. Just another example of how important your job is to not just the hospital, but the community as a whole. Great work guys! ~ Richard Dean Chrestenson

Chris Harris, security officer – Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital – Hood River, Oregon

A vehicle was observed parked in a no-parking zone in the middle of the Emergency Department lot. Security Officer Chris responded to the scene promptly. Upon arrival, he observed a male and female outside the vehicle. The female appeared distressed, bent over at the waist, while the male was attempting to comfort her.

Chris approached and made contact with both individuals. He learned that the male was trying to get the female, who was experiencing suicidal ideation, into the hospital, but she was initially refusing to enter. Using humor to diffuse the situation, Chris reassured the patient by joking that he was the scariest thing in the hospital, and she had already overcome that challenge.

After spending time speaking with the patient and her father outside the Emergency Department, Chris successfully reassured her that she would be safe inside. He then invited her to check in and she asked if she could give him a hug, which he did, stating that Chris was the reason she felt comfortable coming inside.

Once the patient was checked in and placed in a room, Chris continued to demonstrate exceptional care by checking in with her and her parents. Learning that she would be staying overnight, Chris brought her a stuffed animal for comfort. Throughout the night, Chris regularly checked on the patient in ED five, showing genuine concern and care.

Chris went above and beyond in this situation, providing not only security but also emotional support to the patient and her family. His actions were instrumental in ensuring the patient’s safety and comfort during a critical time. ~ Andrew Guerrero – security officer

Thank you! ~ Pake Lang – design construction manager

Chris Harris, security officer – Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital – Hood River, Oregon

Security Officer Chris Harris deserves recognition for his recent actions. While on patrol, Chris saw a dog almost get hit by a couple cars. Thinking quickly, he used his flashlight to stop traffic allowing him an opportunity to contain the dog. With chaos subsiding Chris gained the trust of the dog and it jumped into the patrol vehicle. Chris returned to the hospital, where he contacted the owner to let them know their pet was safe. Chris didn’t stop there. He could tell the dog was overheated and exhausted; provided a comfortable crate for rest after traveling unknown distances from his home. He brought the dog back to the security office, gave it food and water. Officer Harris’s quick thinking and compassionate actions were crucial in keeping a local family pet safe. His dedication to going above and beyond makes him an excellent candidate for recognition. ~ Andrew Guerrero – security officer
