The renovated space, once occupied by the original Cath Lab, had been unused since the building’s removal six years ago. It was initially filled with wood bark and mulch. In September 2023, Lane Moody, director facilities, approached CFO Erika Wright with a proposal to transform it into a garden for caregivers and visitors. With her support, they collaborated with Landesign, Inc. to create renderings and design plans. After clearing the area in November, feedback from caregivers regarding seating and layout was incorporated.
By February 2024, the space was excavated and filled with Disintegrated Granite, providing a durable and visually appealing walking surface. Mini-gardens featuring local plants were strategically placed throughout, enhancing the courtyard’s aesthetic appeal. Following months of preparation, a dedication ceremony was held on April 19th, 2024, with Chaplain Judd Hu offering a blessing. The area was officially named “Caregiver Courtyard” after Barbara Barry, winner of the naming contest. Proudly used daily, the courtyard stands as a testament to our commitment to enhancing the caregiver experience at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
