Janet Polum, program support assistant – Providence Kodiak Alaska Medical Center – Kodiak, Alaska

Janet is my Program Support Assistant here in Kodiak and wears many hats within RESO. One of the biggest tasks Janet champions is the traveler and new caregiver housing and program.  Whenever a new traveler comes to town, Janet makes sure they have a place to live, that it’s clean and they have a car to drive during their time here with Providence. Janet manages 45 apartment rentals for travelers and 16 apartments for new full-time caregivers along with 25 cars in our fleet.

There is a constant influx of travelers coming and going at various times throughout the year and Janet needs to make sure everything is scheduled perfectly. When one traveler or caregiver moves out, she needs to make sure the apartment is cleaned right away and that any repairs are done if needed. She works very hard to make sure that everyone is comfortable, they have keys, and directions to their temporary home the day they arrive in Kodiak. She also makes sure they have a car from our fleet or a rental car when they land in Kodiak. Janet is the contact whenever someone locks their keys in their apartment or in their vehicle and has to coordinate helping them when they do. Janet also gets the call and coordinates the repair if a car breaks down, gets a crack in the windshield or just needs the winter tires put on or removed each year.

Managing housing and vehicles for the travelers and caregivers is a big responsibility here in Kodiak and can be very hectic at times, but Janet always has a smile on her face and goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is taken care of at any hour they arrive in Kodiak. ~ Victor Weaver – senior facilities manager

Vilma Mangalus, cook – Providence Kodiak Alaska Medical Center – Kodiak, Alaska

The residence at the LTC facility say that she is one of the best cooks! Her meals taste amazing and follow all the dietary guidelines. They feel she knows them and tries to make each meal special! ~ Joyce Lorch – food services manager

Mitchell Ogden “Mo”, maintenance supervisor – Providence Extended Care – Anchorage, Alaska

Mr. Mo joined the maintenance team as our Maintenance Supervisor a little over a year ago (December 2023). Within his first few weeks on the job, we experienced sudden bursting of water flowing from the ceilings in various areas in our Commons building. Immediately Mr. Mo sprang into action isolating water helping to minimize the damage. At the same time (due to retirements) the maintenance team was undergoing a transition of new personnel. Thats right Mr. Mo was in the beginning phase of hiring and building a new maintenance team!

He has come in with energy, fresh eyes and ideas. He has promoted and implemented new processes and procedures concerning current vendor use that have helped Extended Care and Transitional Care Center reduce monies spent of approximately $50,000.00 or more in 2023.

There is so much more to be said concerning his heart, his leadership, and his attention to details, and our success is in the details. We will watch him soar 2024. Thank you, Mr. Mo, and keep up the great work!  ~ Michael Snow – senior manager support services

As a manager and salaried employee, it shocked me how much he was here during the ice storm basically working unpaid. Working all day and into the late night then taking calls all night when not here. It really sets the bar high for his team and exemplifies what the facilities department needs to be to keep this ship on track. ~ anonymous

Norm provided assistance to our house supervisor; setting up sleep rooms for staff staying over and directed the EVS staff who were able to make it in. Keith has been dedicated to the success of hospital and the care of our patients for 16 years. He is skilled and provides all the carpet and tile cleaning services in an expert way. But more importantly is his knowledge of every department’s needs and the understanding of the flow of our entire hospitals pace. Recently he provided leadership and filled multiple position when we had our snow and ice storms, and staff was very low. Even when slightly under the weather he comes to do his best. Thank you, Keith Hansen. ~ Thomas Farnsworth – evs supervisor
