I’d like to recognize Dan, not only for the vast knowledge that he has in the IS applications he oversees, but also for making himself available to provide tech support when possible and needed. First Hill, Ballard, Mill Creek, Redmond, and Swedish Cancer Institute Physical Environment/EOC Teams – Clinical Engineering, EVS, Emergency Management, Facilities, Hazardous Waste, Safety, and Security During the week of January 16th, the First Hill, Ballard, Mill Creek, Redmond, and Swedish Cancer Institute (Big License) hosted DNV for a 2-day reaccreditation survey. 14 Surveyors showed up on Jan 18th and reviewed life safety documents and toured all sites. The Physical Environment/EOC Teams rallied and supported the 4 Life Safety Surveyors, only taking 5 deficiencies. This was the first in person survey in 3 years! Kudos to this entire team for their hard work and ongoing regulatory due diligence. I appreciate all your hard work and collaboration. ~ Stacia Rivera – senior director security
Greg Pries, utility technician – Providence St Peter Hospital – Olympia, Washington. As the Chief Engineer, Greg is a dedicated employee who genuinely cares about the functionality of the hospital. His knowledge base covers multiple trades, including HVAC and environment, boilers, electrical (both high and low voltage), fire alarm, building automation, and multiple other systems being used in the facility. Greg has high standards for any work that is happening in the facility, whether it is work he is doing himself, or another employee, or a contractor that is working in the building. While his standards are high, and he expects excellence, he is a relational person who is enjoyable to interact with, and well liked among his colleagues and peers. ~ David Grove – senior electrician
Debra Boryczka, evs technician – Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center – Oregon City, Oregon. Debra works well with everyone she meets. She is a valuable member of our team and takes on additional responsibilities without being asked and adjusts her routine to fit in additional work. Nathan Lewis, associate business intelligence analyst – Providence Southgate 2 – Renton, Washington. Nathan exemplifies our core values in his work by going above and beyond to make sure our caregivers and patients always remain the focal point in his work. Nathan is a Rotational Analyst that is currently supporting the Facilities and Construction teams in the Texas region. The work that Nathan has been doing in Hobbs has been instrumental in successfully getting the facility operationally ready for move in, for state local and joint commission inspections, and working caregivers on the ground through issues and concerns. Nathan goes to great lengths to ensure every caveat is mapped and noted correctly for all to clearly see what is needed to complete each task. Norling Leon, evs technician – Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital – Santa Rosa, California. EVS Caregiver Norling Leon was recognized for going above and beyond cleaning the ED lobby, giving 100% effort. His hard work stood out to everyone who saw him. Thank you Norling for your strong work and dedication. Next week we are treating the EVS staff to lunch, recognizing Norling in our department huddle. Kimberly Parks, evs technician – Providence Milwaukie Hospital – Milwaukie, Oregon. As a fairly new addition to our Swing Shift Team, Kimberly is using her past experience and hitting the ground running, taking on Lead on her shifts and doing a great job! Asao Sakakibara, cook – Swedish Edmonds – Edmonds, Washington. He is punctual, arrives to work on time and continuously does he work as specified by his job description and even goes beyond to finish the incomplete work by the employee who worked the same job before him, without any complains. He has never been apprehended by any the bosses for doing anything wrong or for not doing his job correctly. He is an asset to the Swedish Edmonds kitchen. At all-time he maintains a conducive working environment for others around him. Nathan Lewis, associate business intelligence analyst – Providence Southgate 2 – Renton, Washington. Nathan consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that the reports (using Power BI) he creates are accurate, visually appealing and provide valuable insights for our EVS leaders. His technical expertise and attention to detail are truly impressive and have earned him the respect of my team and hospital’s Operations leaders alike.

Ahlyk Marsyl Newton, patient sitter – Swedish First Hill – Seattle, Washington. This caregiver works as a PSA and does such an amazing job! He gets to know the patient when he first arrives in the morning and once he is familiar with their food/meal preferences he pre-orders breakfast, lunch and dinner to make sure that the meals are appealing and arrive at regular intervals. Once the meals arrive, he provides significant encouragement and kind support around consuming them. As a dietitian, I am especially impressed by the care and consideration that he provides to his patients and am certain that Ahlyk is making a positive impact on the lives and health of the patients that he works with. ~ Michelle Higginson – dietician

I want to recognize two outstanding officers here at PAMC Security. Officers Colbert and Olivera have done exceptional work in our new training courses and teaching classes for all our security ministries here in Alaska. Officer Colbert is one of our new up and coming Field Training Officers here and he’s has exceeded and excelled in all that he has set his mind to do. Officer Olivera is not only one of our leading K9 officers here but has stepped up to the plate when called upon to teach a class or by simply patrolling around with K9 officer “Roby” showing love and support for every caregiver they encounter. Chris Britton, maintenance supervisor – Providence Regional Medical Center Everett – Everett, Washington. This isn’t about any one incident. Chris consistently goes above and beyond for the best of the organization, our patients, and the prevalence of common sense. He will allow his interruptions to be interrupted to help a fellow caregiver solve a problem or provide support via himself or his team where needed. David has been running short of staff in his department for a long time, but the patients would never know this due to the incredible determination he puts towards to make sure all our patients receive the best care no matter how burned out the department feels. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the I-codes, NFPA codes, FGI Guidelines, Joint Commission regulations, local and state Fire Marshal requirements, and all the other esoterica that it takes to keep a hospital facility running. He is skilled at managing with skinny resources and in juggling all the competing demands that come to him during the workday and beyond. Her dedication to working closely with environmental services caregivers to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene is truly commendable.
Jamie is known for her exceptional communication skills, always sharing new information, studies, and best practices with her team. She is constantly working to ensure that the environment service technicians are protected while carrying out their important work. Her dedication to keeping everyone safe and healthy is an inspiration to us all.

Theodore Belgard, senior facilities engineer – Swedish First Hill – Seattle, Washington. Ted has been a good leader in Facilities Engineering at First Hill. He is kind and compassionate and helps out everywhere he can in the hospital whether it is with a staff member or a patient. Karen Santino, evs supervisor – Providence Centralia Hospital – Centralia, Washington. Karen has displayed excellence by her leadership. In the last year, our EVS team has been down as much as 60% but Karen found ways to keep the team motivated and engaged. She has worked diligently to build our team back up to 100% taking the time to find people that are in alignment with Our Mission, Vision, and Values. Karen also has weekly meetings with her caregivers to review safety topics and give time to collaborate as a team. Occasionally, Karen will invite a guest to come to the meetings to have Q and A time. She has invited the Safety Officer, Jack Bradford, to present safety topics, and she has also had our CNO, Cindy Sidley, come to a meeting to introduce herself. I appreciate Karen for the continued efforts she puts into her team and her own leadership development. Jay Rost, senior medical laboratory scientist – Providence Regional Medical Center Everett – Everett, Washington. Jay Rost makes the extra effort to make sure the lab is functioning properly. He makes himself available to assist colleague’s even when he is in a different department. Jay is one of the few experience techs on night shift. A lot of his coworkers look to him for the expertise he provides and find his input valuable, which improves patient care. Laboratory leadership trusts his decision making when leadership isn’t available, and he always makes the right decision. Anthony Davila, security supervisor – St Joseph Hospital – Orange, California. Davila had just finished his shift and was walking towards his car when he noticed a fellow caregiver struggling to replace a tire on their car. Davila had been working since before midnight and could have just as easily continued walking but that is not the kind of person he is. Davila returned into the office and asked me if I had my carjack in my car. Soon enough, Davila was on his knees doing his best impression of a mechanic. He even had the scraped bloody knuckles to prove it. I don’t know of a caregiver who exemplifies our values, in and outside of work, more than Davila. I am proud to be working by his side and to be working for an organization that fosters someone of his character. ~ David Sicari – security officer
