CRCA Radiant Lung Cancer Screening Contributions Recognized by Foundation

Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka achieved a designation as a Lung Cancer Screening Center (LCSR) of Excellence from GO2 Foundation. This achievement is a great example of how the Clinical & Revenue Cycle Applications team enables the collection of data on Epic that leads to processing and communicating results back to patients with a quicker turnaround time.

As of September 30, 2022, the hospital has completed 315 lung cancer screenings—an average of 35 per month. They have also identified 35 participants who showed abnormal screens, and at least four participants have had pathology-proven lung cancer identified at an early and curable stage this year. These statistics illustrate how Epic data helps with early detection which is key in saving lives.

Prior to Epic, oncology coordinators did not have a managed dashboard and had to manually enter data elements for the LCSR and to the American College of Radiology. The addition of an Epic dashboard provides specific instructions that now walks coordinators through the “tracks and recommendations” process and guides them through how to enter pathology data. The implementation of Epic has significantly reduced the number of hours taken to enter data, and lowered human errors so the focus can now be on patient care, diagnosis and early treatment.
