Check out the new functional leadership diagram that visualizes the way IS & RESO have begun evolving our organization to support the new Providence operating model.
This is an email that BJ Moore, EVP/CIO, IS & RESO, shared to IS & RESO caregivers on September 16, 2022.
I want to make sure the broader IS & RESO functions are aware of some changes that have taken place this week as we align to the streamlined Providence Divisional operating model. The goal of the Providence family of organizations in aligning to this new model, in the face of significant financial challenges, is to free-up resources for the frontlines, help our ministries and affiliates adapt to a fast-changing world, and empower local decision-making to meet the unique needs of each of their communities.
RESO leadership and progress
With its three recently-announced Divisional VPs, RESO’s senior leadership team is already aligned to the new model, and is currently working on developing best practices for the range of services it provides to each division and the platforms it uses across all three. RESO has also been asked to pause capital projects where possible and evaluate its asset and lease portfolio to optimize performance. Last week, I shared with core leaders that, after doing an excellent job for a number of months in an interim capacity, Mike Denney has been promoted to GVP of RESO. Mike and team have a very challenging but exciting journey ahead to continue modernizing and aligning RESO functions across Providence.
For Information Services (IS), the new divisional structure means that functions aligned to the previous seven regions will now also shift to a model supporting these recently-created North, Central, and South operating divisions, as well as the new Providence Clinical Network division under chief executive David Kim, MD.
IS Strategic Partners and Service Delivery roles consolidating within STE org
Regional IS Strategic Partner roles (ISSPs) under Les Brooks and the regional IS Service Delivery positions in Chris Briggs’ Strategic Technology Enablement/Clinical Technology Services organization, will align as a single team within Chris’ STE leadership. This alignment will simplify our regional coverage model for greater efficiency, with a single team accountable at the regional level for technology service and support in that region. As part of this, we are creating a new leadership role of Executive Director, Regional IT & Clinical Engineering Operations, with overall accountability for regional service delivery. The CTS functions will realign all local service delivery (service physically delivered to our ministries) under a new role of Vice President, Physical IT & Clinical Engineering Operations, reporting to Chris, that will be accountable for driving service optimization, standardization, and maturity across Providence. This will put in place a structure where we have a single function accountable for the quality of IS services within the region or facility. This team will provide a point of contact for all IS project activity within the facility and ensure our IS services are managed to standard. This realignment will not change employment and direct reporting relationships for frontline CTS caregivers.
Changes for Clinical Informatics
To better align with and support the divisional model, each division including the Clinical Network will be partnered with a Clinical Informatics executive. Additionally, Dr. Michael Marino, CMIO/SVP of Clinical Informatics, and Michelle Woodley, VP/Chief Nursing Informatics Officer, will depart Providence in October. As a result, CI leadership will transition, on an interim basis, to Maulin Shah, MD, our current VP of CI Engineering. Maulin will now report to Ivette de Rubens, GVP, IS & RESO Strategy & Centers of Excellence. Dr. Shah is currently working with the rest of the CI leadership team to realign and adjust to the leadership departures with the goal of maintaining stability and day-to-day support of clinical and operations work. Thank you to Dr. Shah and the rest of the CI leadership team for stepping up and helping us navigate these changes. I also want to thank Dr. Marino and Michelle for their commitment and service to the Mission of Providence throughout their long tenure.
New IS Solution Delivery function to support our Divisional model
With a vision to realize the benefits of the divisional leadership model, we are in the process of creating a new role of VP of Clinical IT Solution Delivery, reporting to Ivette de Rubens. This is a critical leadership role that will align to each of the divisions and work in partnership with each division leader and their teams to ensure that their business strategies and operational needs are well-understood and appropriately supported from IS. The goal is to partner to develop a well-prioritized plan and roadmap for technology operations and solutions across the entire IS portfolio. In the coming weeks, Ivette, in partnership with Dr. Shah, and other leaders and stakeholders across IS and the divisions, will work to define a detailed path forward for the success of this new function.
I know that these changes, together with cost reduction measures we are needing to take, all make for difficult and challenging times. In alignment with our core values and Mission, caregivers affected by these changes have been notified and we are communicating with relevant ministry and regional partners to inform them of any changes in IS support and to address their concerns. We will work to support all affected caregivers through this transition. I am very grateful for the work and professionalism of core leaders and individuals, across IS & RESO, including our HR partner team under the leadership of our CHRO Vanessa Torres, who continue to provide care for our teams during these transitions.
Finally, last week, I shared with core leaders the selection of permanent leadership for CRCA and Healthcare Intelligence for our executive leadership team. Join me in congratulating Adar Palis as the new GVP, Clinical & Revenue Cycle Applications and Mark Premo as GVP/chief data officer, Healthcare Intelligence.
I am confident in the direction and leadership of IS & RESO as we navigate these difficult times. Appreciate your partnership in adapting to changing needs as we position ourselves to best sustain our Mission into the future.
