On June 6, select new clinical caregivers participated in an improved Epic training experience using adaptive learning.
The training reduces the time a caregiver spends in online Epic courses by identifying information they already know and focusing learning on what they do not. This, in turn, allows new caregivers to begin bedside work sooner.
The initial implementation impacted newly onboarded in-patient nurses in the following units:
- Medical and surgical
- Telemetry
- Newborn/NICU
- Pediatric/PICU
- Critical care
- Oncology
- Hospice
- Rehabilitation facilities
- Inpatient long-term care MDS nurses
As we continue implementation for additional clinical roles, core leaders will begin to have access to insights into each caregiver’s understanding of key subjects.
As work continues to modernize onboarding education across the system, you will begin to see reports that show the competency of caregivers on your team and areas where you can provide additional focused coaching. This will give you the information you need to ease the way for new caregivers and help them learn the skills with which they struggle.
Over time, additional clinical and non-clinical training may transition to the new platform, including more Epic classes to be offered this year. We anticipate a rapid increase in successful learning outcomes and a more personalized training experience for new caregivers.
