New Microsoft Features, Training Classes, and Resources

Microsoft released new features in Word, Outlook, and Teams to help with web accessibility. OneTeam is hosting a variety of classes this month, including how to move files on shared network drives to SharePoint sites.

New Accessibility Features

Web accessibility is critically important to people with disabilities. To ensure Providence provides an inclusive and equally accessible environment to everyone, we have created a Web Accessibility site explaining the accessibility features found in our Modern Workplace applications and ServiceNow. You will also find tools and tips to help create more accessible content.

  • Word – Dictation is a voice-to-text service built into 365 that can be used to create documents, emails, notes, and presentations. Select the Dictate icon under the Home tab to activate the microphone. Be sure to wait for it to turn on before you start speaking. Dictation is also available in Outlook, OneNote and PowerPoint.
  • Outlook – Microsoft has added an automatic prompt when an accessibility violation is detected while you are composing an Outlook email message to large audiences. The accessibility checker runs automatically, and a MailTip will offer suggestions on how to correct these issues.
  • Teams – Closed captioning is now available to Teams meeting participants in both the desktop and mobile Teams applications. This can be done for each Teams meeting joined by selecting the ellipsis to the left of the camera icon and then selecting Turn on live captions. Captions will appear at the bottom of the participant’s screen only.

Microsoft Training Classes in May

Brush up on your skills or learn something new by taking any of these virtual courses this month. Topics include Forms, Office 365, OneDrive, OneNote, Outlook, Power Automate, SharePoint, Teams and more.

Reminder that shared network drives are going away in October. Files on shared network drives must be moved to SharePoint sites. If you have files to move, you may want to attend these helpful classes and Q&A sessions (all times are Pacific):

If you are interested in a course but can’t make it, recordings are made available. Visit the OneTeam video library to catch up. Also see the Applications A-Z guide for a brief description of each Microsoft app, what it does best, and if the app is approved for PHI (protected health information) and PII (personal identifiable information).

Navigating Microsoft Edge

Microsoft will be ending support for Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022, and Edge is now Providence’s default browser. If you are new to using Edge and would like to learn more about it, or just need to know how to import your favorites from Internet Explorer to Edge, we have several resources available on the Microsoft Edge site.
