The legacy Providence Health System Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to modern Cloud Warehouse (CDW) data transition is underway, with the Healthcare Intelligence (HI)-owned migrations in-progress or complete within the CDW.
For perspective, the old EDW environment includes 194 databases in development and production environments, of which HI directly owns and manages the migration of 34. All EDW data needs to be migrated, archived, or sunset by the target date of the end of March 2021.
The HI EDW migration team strongly recommends that our partners and data users, who haven’t already, start transitioning from the EDW to the CDW. It is essential that you complete an analysis of the data you own or use, and research how to migrate or switch to the new data services in the CDW.
Depending on whether you own or use an EDW data set, this analysis may include:
- Identifying databases you own or use
- Evaluating end-to-end workflows
- Assessing needs and effort
- Deciding whether to migrate or switch
- Scheduling with the EDW sunset date in mind
- Determining HI support needed for your migration
Please keep in mind the compelling advantages of switching to a CDW data source with the high standards of the HI-owned and maintained databases, such as Synergy.

- Check status of database migrations in the Providence EDW Migration Tracker.
- Database partners and owners should read the documentation, including the EDW to CDW Migration Guide for Partner Databases.
Thank you for your continuing patience and cooperation.
