IS leads Providence St. Joseph Health in many ways – in our adoption of technology, our embrace of Health 2.0, and in Mission service! One area, unfortunately, where we’re lagging behind the rest of the enterprise is in our participation with the flu vaccination program, which had a 2019 goal of 90% vaccination across PSJH.
Receiving a flu vaccination each year is one of the best ways to protect our fellow caregivers, our patients, and our families and support our vision of Health for a Better World through example. As a core leader, B.J. Moore and our IS executive leadership team, ask for your help to improve IS participation in this critical Caregiver Health Services program.
At the end of October, when we looked at the data with HR, IS had one of the lowest compliance rates across large departments of PSJH, at less than 50%.
Although the vaccination events across PSJH regions have now ended, please take care of your health, your family’s health, and support community health, and help drive higher IS vaccination rates in the coming weeks, as we head deeper into flu season.
We urge you to take the following actions:
- Now that on-site vaccinations are over, obtain a flu shot from your preferred provider. Your favorite pharmacy, drug store, or grocery chain may have low-cost options that even offer promotions in conjunction with vaccination, as an alternative to a primary care provider.
- Email the record of your vaccination to Caregiver Health Services at FluShots@providence.org. A clear photo or PDF will work.
- Caregivers who are unable to receive the vaccination or decline the vaccination, need to complete the influenza vaccine declination form on the HR portal.
- As a bonus, caregivers can receive 2,000 Choose Well points by participating by November 15. Find the flu vaccination attestation form on the Programs section of the Virgin Pulse site, which can be accessed by selecting the Caregiver Well-being/Choose Well button on the HR portal.
If you need more convincing, Amy Compton-Phillips, M.D., chief clinical officer, shares more about why PSJH is so passionate about our caregivers getting vaccinated.
