RESO Platform Update: Construction Council, February 2024

In this week’s RESO Update we are highlighting the progress from our Construction Council. The Construction Council is focused on driving consistency of project delivery across all the Providence regions. The council will achieve this by creating a platform that communicates best practices, initiates training on process, understands and works with PMO to design efficient processes, incorporating regional differences while working closely with the PMO organization on the implementation of the overall project delivery program.

High-Level Updates from the Recent Construction Council Offsite

The recent offsite meeting of the construction council was packed with insightful reflections, strategic discussions, and updates on key initiatives shaping the future of the organization. Here’s a summary of the highlights:

Reflection on Teamwork

Ryan Berry led a reflective session highlighting the critical role of teamwork, trust, communication, and tolerance in driving the council’s success.

PMO Roadmap Insights

Sue-Lynn Walsh provided key insights into the PMO roadmap, emphasizing data integrity, cashflow forecasting, and the excitement around implementing standardized dashboards for E-Builder data.

Charter Overview

Mike Hlastala guided a revisit of the construction council charter to align it with the organization’s annual goals.

Goals for the Year Ahead

Several ambitious goals were outlined, including the adoption of a lessons learned tool, enhancements to the on-boarding process, and the development of a comprehensive training program.

Overviews of Large Projects

Mike Hlastala and Justin Strzelecki gave overviews of the Mission Viejo and North Tower projects, respectively, offering insights into their progress and challenges.

E-Builder Focus

The council reaffirmed its commitment to communication, simplifying system configuration, and prioritizing financial workflows and integrations within E-Builder.

Finance Discussion

Jeremy Dibble and Richard Patchett led an in-depth discussion on capital planning processes, challenges, and financial forecasts for projects.

Hope Tower Audit Findings

Mike Siwek presented findings from the Hope Tower audit, highlighting the need for standardizing charters, forming steering committees for large projects, updating governance processes, and addressing staffing issues.

Design and Planning Strategy

Rachel Jenner outlined strategies for planning and design, focusing on scoping discussions, collaboration with PMO, relationship building, occupancy planning, and integration with construction.

Regional Construction Updates

Each region provided updates on key projects, initiatives, organizational overviews, areas needing assistance, and accolades.

Meeting Frequency

The council agreed to hold off-site meetings every four months, with the next meeting scheduled for June. Overall, the offsite meeting served as a platform for aligning strategies, addressing challenges, and fostering collaboration across various functions within the construction council.
