Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center

The new 33,000 sf. expansion project at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center features the Carol Danielson Suzuki Cancer Center, expanding the reach of Providence Cancer Institute, which treats more people with cancer than any other health system in Oregon. With expanded capacity for chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments and access to surgical oncology services, more patients will receive cancer care closer to the communities where they live. The Providence Willamette Falls (PWF) Expansion project was the last phase of development comprising the hospital’s master plan for Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center (PWFMC).

Scope of work included construction of a new two-story 33,000 sf. medical office building with parking, as well as site and public right of way improvements.  The facility provides 5,600 sf. for central utility equipment and infrastructure in the basement. Approximately 12,000 sf. space on the first floor and the remaining portion serving as a new East Entrance and Lobby connecting to the hospital’s main level.  Approximately 14,600 sf. space for second floor oncology infusion clinic, and approximately 750 sf. roof penthouse space for equipment. This new space provides new tenant space for SE PRODA Oncology clinic relocating to the Willamette Falls campus. Finally, this project supports Providence’s sustainability and environmental stewardship goals.

Redundancy and sustainability were at the forefront of planning and scoping discussions. The project significantly reduced overall hospital EUI (energy utilization index). Provided new level 2 chargers for free use by electric vehicles, new condensing boilers (allowing future decommissioning and removal of energy-intensive steam boilers), and provided new east chiller plant with high-efficiency magnetic bearing chillers which not only addressed reliability and equipment redundancy shortcomings but will also allow expansion of chilled water loop and conversion of inefficient DX units and deferred maintenance replacement of AHU’s around the campus (already moving forward with extending chilled water to birthplace AHU).

The Providence Willamette Falls Expansion project was led by Jeff Taylor. Construction duration was 2 years from July 2021 thru April 2023. Special thank you to the PWF facilities team, nursing and admin leadership for being tremendous partners throughout the project, demonstrating adaptability and creativity that was essential to the success of the project.
