Healthcare Safety & Security Week

The week of October 9 was Healthcare Security & Safety week, which recognized security professionals and the critical role they play in serving healthcare facilities, caregivers, patients and visitors. This year’s theme is “Leading with Excellence. Protecting with Care.” It recognizes the importance of security and safety in healthcare, while acknowledging the strong commitment, diligence, and care security officers display in their practice and profession.

In the Southwest Puget Sound alone, 36 security professionals responded to over 25,000 calls for service. Throughout our organization, security officers may act as the on-site security presence, provide valuable risk-assessments, active-shooter/code-silver training, fire drills, consultation, reporting, and even perform EMT services. Please join me in recognizing and celebrating our organization’s safety and security personnel. Thank you for your dedication and excellence.

This Team performs in a professional manner daily, making sure that everyone at Swedish not only feels safe but are safe. I am constantly amazed by the incredible work they do. This team is constantly tested throughout their shift. Officers spend their days responding to calls that range from the simplest day-to-day task to the most extreme situations imaginable all while continuing to perform in the upmost professional and compassionate manner possible. These Officers are tested day in and day out constantly assessing every situation and attempting to make the right decision while the world watches around them. Their consistent positive attitude has made a huge difference in our team. It is rare to come across people who are so dedicated to the safety of others. I feel lucky to come to work every day knowing that I get to work with such incredible people. My words can never be enough to praise their actions; the work and talent they bring to the table always exceed my expectations. Their passion and ambition are infectious, and their willingness to go the extra mile rubs off on the entire Hospital. The way they represent our company value of Compassion, Justice, Excellence, Dignity, Integrity, and Safety is apparent to Caregivers everywhere. Thank you for all you do and being such a fitting example of what it means to work for Swedish. ~ Jimmy Sheppard – supervisor, security
