The following message from Mike Denney, interim SVP, RESO, was sent to all RESO caregivers on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
RESO caregivers,
Just like teams across Providence Shared Services, RESO is working to align our leadership structure to the new three-division Providence operating model. As we move forward with that realignment, I want to provide an update on our progress.
Mike Denney, VP, RESO North Division & Interim SVP RESO
I will continue to serve as the interim SVP for RESO while BJ Moore and Providence determine the right leadership structure for RESO following Craig Arnold’s tragic passing on August 7. I will also serve as the VP, RESO for the North Division, led by Dr. Guy Hudson as the Chief Executive. This new North Division includes Puget Sound and Alaska. Additionally, I will represent RESO on BJ Moore’s IS & RESO executive team and serve on Providence executive councils in my interim capacity.
Andrew Haslam, VP, RESO Central Division
Last week, Andrew Haslam returned to Providence and began his new role as VP, RESO for the Central Division. Andrew will be responsible for the RESO teams serving this new Division, which is led by Joel Gilbertson as the Chief Executive. The Central Division includes Oregon, Eastern Washington/Montana and Texas/New Mexico. Andrew will be based in Portland. Please join me in welcoming Andrew back to Providence as he takes on this critical role.
Alex Herr, VP, RESO South Division
For most of this year, Alex has been leading the RESO teams in California and Texas/New Mexico, as well as serving as the interim leader for Alaska and Eastern Washington/Montana. With the hiring of Andrew Haslam, Alex will now be able to transition to his role as the VP, RESO for the South Division. The South Division is led by Keven Manemann as the Chief Executive and includes Southern and Northern California. Please join me in thanking Alex for agreeing to take on an enormous interim role this year and for doing it so well.
Continuing to evolve our organization
Our RESO leadership team, which consists of the Divisional VPs, Jeremy Dibble, VP, Strategy and Operations and Sommer Miller, Executive Director of Planning and Design, continues to evolve as we create a structure to serve RESO and the Mission of Providence.
Soon, you will hear news of additional members of the RESO leadership team and an update on the Platform Development work that began this summer. These platforms will be critical to support our teams and provide a framework of consistent processes, best practices and resources. Our RESO Councils will also evolve to lead individual service lines and platforms. We are fortunate that Craig had us focused on this work and we will make significant progress soon.
This refined model will help us streamline decision-making to align with the new Providence structure and ensure we have the appropriate layers of leadership connected at the Division and System levels. In addition, we’re looking at making our RESO service offering more consistent across the system. Ultimately, we aren’t as efficient as we can be if we provide some services at some locations and not others. We’re reviewing the benefits of consolidating services that RESO manages so we can create a standard RESO model across all ministries.
I appreciate the dedication of everyone who is part of our RESO team. It’s humbling and inspiring. Knowing the enormous financial challenges Providence faces, I’m completely confident that RESO will be lead the way in our recovery. We have several initiatives already underway, led by Jeremy Dibble, to improve our fiscal performance. These initiatives include a focus on selling assets that don’t have a role in our portfolio and proactively determining the necessity of renewing leases that don’t support our business or Mission effectively. These portfolio optimization initiatives will allow us to consolidate and exit leases and deliver an ongoing run rate savings of $15 million annually with targets to increase that annual savings to $30+ million by 2024. Combined, these initiatives will have a positive impact on our 2022 performance of more than $100 million.
Thank you for your patience as we complete our planning and adapt to our evolving structure to support the long-term sustainability of our Mission. On behalf of the leadership team, I want to express our thanks for everything you do.
-Mike
