Admin Tech Team Helps REH Repurpose Donated Medical Supplies

The Medical Supply Recovery Operations team (MSRO) within the Resource Engineering & Hospitality (REH) organization receives medical supply donations from Providence ministries and repurposes them to partner charities who serve the most vulnerable.

The MSRO team is small (just three caregivers), and building efficiency is a critical aspect to achieving some of their goals.  Volunteers make up a significant portion of their workforce as caregivers come to the Lacey, Washington warehouse to unpack and sort medical supplies and equipment donated from all over the Providence network of ministries that would otherwise end up in a landfill.

These unused items are then redistributed locally and internationally in areas with limited access to health care. Inspired by the humanitarian efforts of the Sisters of Providence, each year MSRO sends an average of 100,000 lbs. of medical supplies to 20+ countries.

IS Administrative Technology is working with the MSRO team to modernize their supply chain process by digitizing their inventory into a customized management solution, Flowtrac. The goal of this effort is to enable effective inventory management for the team and partner charities with specific medical supply needs. Admin Tech executed a ”soft go-live” with Flowtrac on October 22, 2021, and will continue to work with MSRO to build out capabilities through Q4.

As MSRO is a small team managing a large volume of donated inventory, optimizing the value of the Flowtrac solution is critical. Admin Tech has worked closely with the MSRO team to identify the following key measures for success in this project:

  • Increase the number of supplies donated per quarter
  • Decrease the holding time of incoming donations
  • Increase the number of volunteer hours donated by caregivers

Automation of the end-to-end process will allow MSRO to be less dependent on historic tribal knowledge, allow for reporting and monitoring of impact to internal/external teams, make it easier to execute changes as needed, and the enhance the ability to share both inventory and inventory levels with partner organizations.
