Urgent security action needed for Apple device users

Apple recently released security updates for iPhones and iPads to address a critical security vulnerability. All Apple users need to update their devices to iOS 14.8 to protect the device and our IT environment, especially if you use work apps on your personal Apple devices.

For Providence-owned Apple devices

  • All Providence-owned Apple devices should have received the iOS 14.8 update between September 15-17, 2021. You do not need to perform any technical steps. The update should have automatically download to the device and then taken up to 30 minutes to complete. If the device was in use at the time of the download, the installation should have taken place the next time the device was locked and charging.
  • If your device already has the iOS 14.8 update available for download, you may proceed with downloading and installing the update. The download process may take up to 30 minutes.

For personal Apple devices

If you haven’t yet, please update your personal Apple device to iOS 14.8 today. Personal Apple devices used at Providence’s family of organizations need to be updated to keep our IT environment secure.

Follow these steps:

  • Launch Settings > General > then tap Software Update.
  • Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now.
  • Verify the update on your Apple device. Launch Settings > General > Software Update. The screen should display iOS 14.8. If the current software version is not iOS 14.8, please try to update the device again.
