Healthcare Intelligence Delivers Data to Truveta to Support COVID-19 Fight

On August 16, IS Healthcare Intelligence (HI) delivered an initial, five-year historical dataset to Truveta and started daily update processing. They delivered early to support an urgent request from Pfizer to study COVID-19 in children. Daily updates to the data have been running successfully since August 24.

EVP/CIO of IS & RESO B.J. Moore shares, “I’m extremely pleased that Providence was the first healthcare system to achieve this milestone in the evolution of Truveta. This work leverages the investment we’ve made in our cloud transformation, and partnerships with Microsoft and Databricks. I’d also like to acknowledge Healthcare Intelligence and in particular Team Data Science for their tireless efforts to make this happen.”

What is Truveta?

Truveta is a consortium of 17 health care providers who share and pool information resources to foster research, find cures, and empower clinicians through analysis made possible with their collective data. Their goal is to promote and achieve the vision of Saving Lives with Data.

HI’s Truveta data extract

The HI Truveta extract process is built on the Healthcare Data Platform (HDP), which includes the Azure Data Lake G2, Cloud Data Warehouse, Databricks, and infrastructure (Advanced Computing Platform or ACP).

The data from the three Providence primary Epic instances in Oregon/California, Washington/Montana, and Alaska consists of 67 tables of data integrated from Clarity. The dataset includes information on approximately 13 million patients from a total of 26.5 million across these instances, and approximately 807 million encounters.

Next steps

Over the short term, the team will continue working with Truveta to help them understand the details about the deliverable. We will also be including additional tables to fill out the dataset. Providence and Truveta will be developing an approach and scope to extract relevant data from the other EMR instances. In the next few months, we will work together to build a roadmap to include additional datasets, such as Claims, Genomics, DICOM, etc.

Kudos

While many across HI were involved in making this happen, Team Data Science, including Jennifer Jones, Yuqing Guo, and Andrey Dubovoy, was instrumental in its contributions.
