As an integral Mission-oriented component of our last two IS & RESO Summer and Christmas Virtual Socials, we’ve helped Providence-aligned charities. For our Summer 2021 Virtual Summer Social, we’re partnering with YWCA Spokane, who will receive the funds raised from our raffle of deluxe gift items donated by our executive team.
A focus on supportive housing for survivors of domestic violence
Specifically, the funds we raise will enable YWCA Spokane to help survivors fleeing intimate partner domestic violence, who need rehousing, homeless prevention services, safety planning, rental assistance, and resource brokering.
Here is a story shared by YWCA Spokane of how the funds we raise from the IS & RESO Summer Raffle can help those in need:
One former client came to Spokane from another state. She was fleeing an abusive ex-partner who was stalking her. She stayed with us at an overflow shelter location during the pandemic.
Using tracking technology, he was able to locate her in Spokane because of her mobile phone. Our shelter advocates worked with her to create a safety plan around this challenge. Our team helped her turn off location services on her phone. They also provided her with education regarding apps she can use in the future for communication on mobile phones that will not give away her location.
Our housing advocates also helped her identify a future area to live outside Spokane where she could be safe. They worked with her to discuss how and where she could safely find a good friend and family support system. In addition, they helped her look for work as well as for a new home.
Together, our staff and the client chose a safe location to relocate to once her ex-partner could no longer track her location. Within the week, the client was safely and quickly able to relocate to a state unknown to her abuser. Thankfully, the client had several family members who were able to assist with living, mental health, and her financial needs during her transition. With this wrap around support, she was able to focus on her health, housing, and her stability while beginning a new life in a safe location.
