The IS Healthcare Intelligence (HI) Product Management and Advanced Analytics (PMAA) team has launched new operational dashboard capabilities for iSurvey, a digital survey system used for clinical quality assessment, planning, and decision support.
iSurvey replaces a variety of digital and paper-based systems to incorporate real-time staff input from online survey apps into Azure Cloud databases with links to existing patient records. It combines survey data and automated dashboards in a way that allows rapid and flexible initial deployment. iSurvey’s purpose is to surround and extend to areas where we don’t have good automation or electronic data sources rather than be the end solution for operational dashboard reporting.
iSurvey has significantly helped our clinical customers while saving HI time and resources. For example:
- Reduced hospital-acquired infections (HAI) at Swedish and WAMT hospitals by deploying surveys and dashboards to audit central lines, catheters, and isolation rooms for resource management and policy adherence.
- Provided the analysis, design, and implementation expertise for rapid deployment at the Providence Alaska: Operational Dashboard at PAMC implementation that spanned just two months from initial conversation to go-live, with 10 different departments and facilities entering data. It gave core leaders up-to-date status and information to plan staffing and resources.
An end-to-end solution
iSurvey is a complete, multi-component system consisting of:
- Data collection that uses custom mobile and desktop web survey apps
- Data modeling and storage on databases hosted on the Azure Cloud
- Reporting workflows for visualizations and dashboards developed in Power BI
- An approach that minimizes time lag between data collection, processing, and visualization
- A design, development, and deployment process that facilitates short implementation timeframes
Other improvements
In addition to operational dashboards, iSurvey has made these recent improvements:
- Migrated existing iSurvey databases to Azure Cloud
- Implemented Epic FHIR feed to enable real-time updating
- Added capability for survey branching based on user answers
- Enhanced survey presentation features, including rich text formatting
- Improved integration for reporting workflows leveraging new Power BI tools
iSurvey stats
- 37 surveys live, including:
- Over 134,000 total surveys taken since June 2017
- Over 5,000 monthly surveys (+20% in 2021) across enterprise
