On our June 30 IS & RESO Open Forum, Kerrie Bartel-Christensen, VP and Interim Head of RESO, and Wendy Trapp, ass. project manager, shared some of the ways Providence is helping deal with the recruiting challenges that a lack of affordable workforce housing poses.
Affordable housing is generally defined as housing that costs families between 60-120% of area media income (AMI). Areas where this lack of affordable housing presents the greatest challenge to Providence being able to recruit much-needed caregivers are in some of our rural communities in Oregon and Alaska, partially because of their limited amount of developed property.
By partnering with developers and using creative approaches to master lease agreements, RESO is helping address the workforce housing challenges in the following communities served by Providence.
Oregon | Alaska |
Medford—100 units, partnering with Edlen & Co. Currently in pre-development phase, beginning construction July 2022. Seaside —Leasing block of 10 apartments Hood River—Site identification/exploration | Valdez—8 units on existing property; Spring 2023 Kodiak —12 units on existing property; Spring 2023 Seward —Master lease from developer on existing 6-plex; Oct 2021, with 4-plex in 2022 |
