As our next step toward a full transition to the cloud and enabling more datasets in our Azure-based Cloud Data Warehouse (CDW), Healthcare Intelligence (HI) has started migrating the remaining legacy Providence Health & Services and St. Joseph Health Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) assets to CDW.
This transition will significantly improve the performance, efficiency, and maintainability of our datasets. The CDW’s Azure cloud technologies automatically scale according to our data performance and availability needs. Once migrated, we will sunset our legacy EDW on-premise servers and database systems.
HI will migrate the data that we own and support. We expect EDW data mart owners to move their EDW data marts, databases, and tables to the CDW to enable our cloud vision and realize its benefits.
Recognizing that this transition will take time, HI is notifying our data analytics partners and EDW data mart owners to begin planning the move.
We anticipate sunsetting legacy PHS and SJH EDWs in 2021. We know there will be questions about the timing of the migration and are developing a comprehensive plan. We will provide more updates soon.
