From a security guard in Portland Providence Medical Center, to a Cyber Incident Response team intern, Kevin Bredemeier continues to impress caregivers across IS.
In 2016, Kevin transferred from PMC to work in the Lloyd Center office, where he helped with security logistics and was the person behind the scenes making sure things ran smoothly for our PSJH operations in the facility.
After being an Army National Guard soldier and a security guard for a few years, Kevin knew he wanted a career change, and cybersecurity was one of his top choices.
“While completing my degree and working at LCO, I built relationships with people working in the IS department, which led me to being able to reach out for support and engage in conversations to better understand the department,” said Kevin.
In his current role working under security engineering and cyber defense operations manager Matt Olson and engineering lead Ellen Latocki, Kevin helps support the Information Security team by taking tickets that look suspicious ad analyzing blocked emails, spam, and locked-out computers.
He hopes to join IS as a fulltime employee once his internship ends.
“I have been with Providence for over 12 years, and I am looking to continue to work with Providence and this team.”
The Information Security internship program is a pilot for our IS department.
The InfoSec internship offers those with the necessary background, skills, and mindset the chance to get their foot in the door for their first Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT), Threat Management, or Security Operations Center (SOC) position.
Currently developing six interns based in Renton and Portland, the CIRT, SOC, and Threat Management team staff take great pride in working alongside and nurturing the up‐and‐coming cyber security superstars of tomorrow. Through our hands‐on, year‐round internship program, students compete for a unique opportunity to work alongside top-notch security experts that work together to protect millions of Providence’s patient’s data.
This pilot InfoSec internship program is one the team hopes to take learnings from that will help build a broader IS internship program in years to come.
